About SaaS Sentinel

Built from experience.
Created to solve a real problem.

SaaS Sentinel's four priorities: availability and response times; security advisories and dependencies; database health and capacity; cost per licence, break-even and operating margins.

Keeping SaaS applications live, secure, scalable and profitable shouldn't become more difficult every time you launch another product.

SaaS Sentinel was created to solve a challenge we encountered ourselves: how do you maintain visibility and control across a growing portfolio of SaaS applications without spending your time switching between dashboards, checking configurations and manually calculating operating costs?

The answer was to bring the information together in one place.

SaaS Sentinel combines application performance and availability monitoring, security and compliance oversight, and financial visibility to help developers, agencies and SaaS operators understand the health and profitability of the applications they manage.

One place to understand what's working, what needs attention and what each application actually costs to operate.

Why I Created SaaS Sentinel

Peter Stevens — Creator of SaaS Sentinel

Modern development platforms such as Lovable and Supabase have fundamentally changed how quickly software can be created.

Building a working SaaS application is no longer necessarily a project measured in months. Ideas can be developed, tested and brought to market in a fraction of the time previously required.

But building an application is only the beginning.

I was developing and operating a growing portfolio of SaaS solutions and encountered a problem that will be familiar to anyone managing multiple applications.

When you have one application, the tools provided by your hosting, database and development platforms are usually sufficient.

You know where everything is. You regularly check the dashboards, understand the costs and remember what needs attention.

But once you have several applications, things become more complicated.

One application's database hasn't been checked recently. Another has an approaching security or configuration issue. A third has increased its infrastructure consumption, but nobody has noticed.

And while you might know what you're charging customers, do you really know what each licence costs to deliver?

The information is available, but it's distributed across different platforms, accounts and dashboards.

The problem isn't necessarily a lack of information.

It's that important information becomes easy to overlook when you're managing multiple applications.

I wanted a single place where I could see the operational health, security posture and commercial performance of every application in my portfolio.

That was the starting point for SaaS Sentinel.

Rather than build another general-purpose monitoring platform, I wanted something specifically designed around the needs of people developing and operating modern SaaS applications.

Something that could answer four straightforward questions:

  • Is it live? Are my applications available and performing as expected?
  • Is it secure? Are there vulnerabilities, configuration issues or compliance concerns that need attention?
  • Will it scale? Are infrastructure resources and dependencies healthy enough to support growth?
  • Is it profitable? What does each application and each customer licence actually cost to deliver?

Those four questions continue to shape SaaS Sentinel.

Experience Behind the Product

SaaS Sentinel combines experience from two areas that are often treated separately: enterprise systems management and the commercial realities of operating a SaaS business.

More Than 25 Years in Enterprise Systems Management

SaaS Sentinel was created by Peter Stevens, who has spent more than 25 years working in enterprise systems management, IT operations and technology leadership.

His career includes working with the technologies and organisations involved in the evolution of enterprise monitoring and management solutions, including the foundations of Microsoft's enterprise systems management platforms.

That experience established an important principle:

Effective systems management isn't simply about collecting information. It's about identifying what matters and making it actionable.

Large enterprises have long understood the importance of monitoring availability, performance, capacity, configuration and security across complex technology environments.

Those same principles are just as relevant to a small SaaS business operating five applications as they are to an enterprise managing thousands of systems.

The challenge is applying them without introducing enterprise-level cost and complexity.

SaaS Sentinel brings that operational management philosophy to modern SaaS development.

Understanding the Commercial Side of SaaS

Alongside enterprise technology management, Peter serves as Chief Information Officer at Almaden, a provider of enterprise IT management and Digital Employee Experience software.

His work at Almaden has included SaaS licensing, pricing structures, operational cost management and the commercial considerations involved in delivering software services.

This experience highlighted another important principle:

A technically successful SaaS application isn't necessarily a commercially successful one.

Every application has operating costs.

Database services, hosting, AI consumption, email delivery, development platforms and other services all contribute to the cost of delivering the product.

These costs may be charged in different currencies, change with usage and increase as customer adoption grows.

Understanding the total infrastructure bill is useful, but it doesn't tell you whether an individual application or customer is profitable.

To make informed pricing and investment decisions, you need to understand the relationship between operating costs, licence revenue, customer numbers and margins.

That's why financial visibility is an integral part of SaaS Sentinel rather than an afterthought.

What is SaaS Portfolio Intelligence?

SaaS Portfolio Intelligence (SPI) is the discipline of managing several SaaS applications as one portfolio, rather than as separate systems with separate dashboards.

Conventional monitoring tells you whether an application is running. SPI goes further: what each application costs, how efficiently it operates, when it needs to scale and how those decisions affect profitability.

SPI has four pillars: operational performance, security and compliance, cost and profitability, and capacity and growth. SaaS Sentinel is the SaaS Portfolio Intelligence platform that brings them together.

One Platform. Four Essential Questions.

SaaS Sentinel is designed to bring together the information needed to operate SaaS applications with confidence.

Live — Operational performance

Understand whether applications are available, how they are performing and whether their supporting infrastructure is operating within acceptable limits.

Monitor application response times, database resources, errors and other operational indicators.

Identify potential problems before they become serious service disruptions.

Secure — Security and compliance

Maintain visibility of security advisories, configuration concerns, software dependencies and other potential risks.

Understand where attention is needed and avoid relying on occasional manual reviews of individual platforms.

Support ongoing security oversight and compliance management as your application portfolio grows.

Scalable — Capacity and growth

Monitor resource consumption and infrastructure health to understand how applications are responding to demand.

Identify potential capacity constraints and understand where changes may be required to support future growth.

Make scaling decisions based on operational information rather than assumptions.

Profitable — Cost and profitability

Understand the true operating cost of each SaaS application.

Bring together infrastructure, database, AI, email, hosting and development expenditure.

Relate those costs to your licensing model to understand:

  • Cost per customer licence
  • Break-even licence volumes
  • Revenue and operating margins
  • Changes in profitability over time

Make better decisions about pricing, investment and growth.

Built for People Who Operate Multiple SaaS Applications

SaaS Sentinel is particularly relevant to independent developers, SaaS entrepreneurs and agencies managing applications for multiple customers.

The challenge isn't necessarily that any individual application is particularly complex.

It's that every additional application introduces another collection of dashboards, configurations, dependencies, costs and potential problems.

As your portfolio grows, relying on memory and occasional manual checks becomes increasingly difficult.

SaaS Sentinel provides a consolidated view across your applications, helping you identify what needs attention without repeatedly logging into every underlying service.

The objective isn't to replace the specialist tools provided by Lovable, Supabase or other service providers.

It's to bring their information together so you can manage your applications as a portfolio rather than a collection of disconnected systems.

Developed and Operated by SystemAssure

SaaS Sentinel is owned and operated by SystemAssure ITSM Ltd, a UK-registered technology consultancy trading as SystemAssure.

SystemAssure provides independent technology strategy, Virtual CIO and CTO services, board-level technology advice and bespoke SaaS development.

Our approach is based on combining business understanding with practical technical experience.

We believe technology should solve real business problems, not create unnecessary complexity.

SaaS Sentinel reflects that philosophy.

It was developed to address a problem encountered while building and operating our own software applications, drawing on decades of experience in systems management and the commercial realities of SaaS operations.

We use that experience to develop practical capabilities that help other SaaS operators maintain control as their businesses grow.

SaaS Sentinel isn't simply software we developed to sell. It's software we developed because we needed it ourselves.

Our Philosophy

We believe good software should make complex tasks easier without hiding the information people need to make informed decisions.

For SaaS operators, that means having confidence in four things:

Keep your SaaS portfolio live, secure, scalable and profitable.

Those are the four pillars of SaaS Portfolio Intelligence: operational performance, security and compliance, cost and profitability, and capacity and growth.

These aren't separate objectives.

An application that is available but insecure represents a risk.

An application that performs well today but cannot scale may struggle as its customer base grows.

And an application that is reliable, secure and scalable but costs more to operate than it earns is not a sustainable business.

SaaS Sentinel brings these considerations together because they are all essential to operating successful SaaS products.
